Nan's New Digs...

This week Nan said good-bye to The Oak Park Arms and move into a swanky new space at Norwood Crossing in Chicago. Her room is adorable! She has a lovely view of the courtyard gardens, shiny hardwood floors, and a sweet little library nook! I am sure she will become involved in all sorts of activities as she gets settled in her new home.

The Irish Cup...

The Shamrocks are on a roll!
My parents, my brother and an awesome crew of our favorite people all showed up to cheer on Finn and the Shamrocks on to victory against their crosstown rivals. The Shamrocks took down Notre Dame 7-1 and our favorite #9 had a lovely little assist for his right back position. It was wonderful to have the Irish Cup come home to Saint Patrick where it belongs!

Birthday Dinner: Roister

 Tomato Toast
 Smoked Oysters
Wedge Salad
Whole Chicken and Chamomile
Foie Gras Candy Bar

Roister celebrates kitchen and restaurant becoming one. Leif and I enjoyed a meal at the hearth to celebrate my birthday and we spent time chatting up a few of the chefs as they prepared a pretty extraordinary series of dishes for us. Hands down, this was the best fried chicken I have ever eaten!
I was quite a perfect birthday celebration!

Birthday Beauty...

Leif teamed up with my favorite folks at MOSS Modern Flowers and gifted me this stunning arrangement for my birthday. I love all the food elements in this gorgeous creation.
Lucky me!

Selfie @ 43...

Every year I take a self-portrait on my birthday, but this year a selfie will have to suffice. This is  picture I snapped to share with Emma after my friend El gave me a haircut. While it isn't the best picture of me it does sort of capture the hectic nature of my life at the moment and celebrates the fact my hair is 100% my natural color. Cheers to growing older gracefully! Sure there are more than a few grays in the mix, but overall I am feeling pretty good about all I have managed to get done in the past 43 years. I will look forward to celebrating later in the week-end, but in the meantime Happy Birthday to me!

The PepsiCo Showdown...

The Shamrocks headed to the PepsiCo showdown today...its the largest highschool tournament in the United States and the Shamrocks are seeded second in their bracket.  Things are looking favorable for the boys! The Rocks' defensive line earned another shut out in their opening game!

Feeling Judgmental....

Today, thanks in part to my food writer reputation, our little village felt like a full on Stars Hallow/Gilmore Girls extravaganza. I was honored to judge the first ever pie baking contest at the farmer's market. Our "expert" judging panel had to taste 14 pies-a pretty delicious job! While every single pie had positive attributes, we had a clear consensus on a winner. A perfect peach pie won the day and its competent baker has a blue ribbon to prove it!
It turns out I am super judgey!
