Where the Wild Things Are: A Pop-Up Event

This weekend we transformed The Day Nursery into a restaurant for a duo of fine-dining dinners
to celebrate the Week of the Young Child! I love how this 100 year old organization moves
with the times and embraces alternative means of drawing dollars toward their worthy programs. For our thrid annual pop up dinner series we offered 9-course meal inspired by Maurice Sendak's classic children's book, Where the Wild Things Are.

Before letting guests into the dining room, our seriously fantastic Executive Director, Cari Christoff, treated them to a reading of the book. Only after they knew what they were in for did we reveal the setting for a most memorable meal.

My friends Sue and Rachel helped to transform the dining room and pull together an extraordinary trio of tables. I had such fun supporting their grand visions.  Rachel removed the windows with pipe and drape in order to allow the gorgeous handmade replica of Max's bedroom window to take center stage. Sue's deft hands created a sweet fleet of paper boats, beds filled with moss and birch boxes filled with ferns. Heck, even the tablecloths were sewn for the occasion from nothing other than mattress ticking and a paper crown greeted every guest at their place. People could not believe they were were in a preschool! Aim was on hand to help put the finishing touches on things and the resulting display was nothing less that spectacular.

A gorgeous army of servers!

It took an amazing crew of volunteers to make these dinners a reality and I am grateful to all of my friends, family and fellow Day Nursery board members for sharing their time, talent and treasure with such a worthy organization. I am feeling PROUD, GRATEFUL and EXHAUSTED all at the same time! Cheers until next year.

Chicago Fire Outing...

Nothing beats a sunny day in Section 8.  We have so much fun when we take in a soccer match with friends and totday was no exception. We followed up our trip to Toyota park with a big beautiful burger at Bixby's! So. Much. Fun.

A Kid and his Cat...

After a 24 hour whirlwind it is always nice to unwind with these two. Finn and Jordan are the purrrfect cuddly pair; seeing them together makes coming home even better!

Temple Student Dance...

Emma's choreography, Outside the Lines, was featured as part of Temple University's juried student dance concert and I just had to travel to Philly to see it performed first hand. The piece was well thought out and quirky in the best way! I just loved seeing her vision come to life.
Following the show we visited her apartment, grabbed a middle-of-the-night cheesesteak and hunkered down in a hotel room for the night.  It was the best possible way to spend 24 hours!
