Family at the Fire Game...

For some reason this family portrait just cracks me up!

Boys in the Morning...

Finn was lucky enough to have two of his favorite people in the world spend the night! They were, donut eating, lazy Fifa playing fools all morning and loved every minute of their time together!

Hubbard Street Farewell...

This afternoon Leif and I watched this gorgeous group of dancers demonstrate everything they had learned during the past four weeks with Hubbard Street. Emma has maintained her friendships over the years with folks like this awesome guy and also added a to her friend group in big numbers this summer. Each one of them is insanely talented and I was an honor to watch them today.  While it was hard for all of them to part ways I know they could all use a rest.
We scooped up our tired and sore dancer after her performance and treated her to a bowl full of miso ramen to celebrate the day.  After that we were all super lazy for the rest of the day.
So PROUD of our AMAZING Emma Grace!

Strive Sports Challenge...

To say Finn came back from STRIVE Sports challenge a better young man is a total understatement.  He won these boots and practically wore the out in the same week! He made friends to last a lifetime and learned a great deal about importance of compassionate leadership both on and off the pitch.
In a funny twist our family friend was a trainer on the day focused on teamwork. It was a treat to receive this picture of the two of them together.
He returned fit, inspired and more than a little emotional. Saint Patrick even featured his experience on their website.  He was hornored to attend and though we missed our boy like crazy, we know he is eager to return to the camp next summer for more learning and fun.

And even though he is feeling a little sad his STRIVE experience has come to an end Fitz and Jordan could not be happier he is back under their roof!

Fitz and "Friend"...

Fitz has befriended a real live baby opossum living in our back yard. They have been enjoying middle of the nigh rendezvous where they play and cuddle and Fitz will even carry the little creature around in his mouth.  He has not hurt it and despite the whole scene being very slobber filled they seem to get along just fine in the light of the moon.  Urban living is strange sometimes.

Our Special Guest...

This week we hosted our favorite Sophie-Girl while her parents enjoyed an anniversary get-away.  With Finn away at leadership training program in Delaware we had room in the house for this sweetheart to spend several days being spoiled rotten!
We kicked things off with Soph's favorite dinner...steak, potatoes and asparagus!  We ate early because we had to pick up one of Sophier's friends (whom we'd never met) before we surprised them both with tickets to Blueman Group. Neither had been before so it was a treat seeing them take in all the fun!
And then we ate ice cream in the middle of the night.
Monday morning she avoided scurvy and did math homework before heading to camp for the day and dance class for the evening. I totally missed her while she was gone.
After another dinner of Sophie's favorites...seared salmon and veggies we watched two movies and ate ice cream in the middle of the night again! The next morning I woke her up at 10:30 am for our next surprise adventure...
We drove out to Mitsuwa in Arlington Heights where three of the Pfour surprised her for lunch and shopping.  We sluprped down the most amazing bowl of shoyu ramen; Sophie said is was like eating a hug. And then she ate a soft serve matcha sundae...because ice cream is a key ingredient in spoiling a person properly.
After our awesome lunch and super fun chat we made our way through the market to grab some ingredients for a roll-your-own sushi dinner.
Sophie was a total natural and our sushi creations we the perfect accompaniment to my batch of pork gyoza. It was a total treat to eat and then we watched movies together!

On Wednesday I took Sophie to camp again and then her parents came to pick her up. It was sad to see our time with this great kid come to an end, but we all headed to The Golden Steer to celebrate Amy's birthday and hear all about her fun trip!
 Phew! What a fun whirlwind!

July 4th...

We enjoyed a cookout at the Frigs with friends where we played in bean bag tournaments, ate ribs and chatted the afternoon away in a pretty little back yard.

It also provided one of those elusive opportunities to snap a picture of our entire family!

Besties and Butter Burgers...

I love nothing more than meeting up with the Pfour at Kopp's for lunch and a quick catch-up session.

Wisco Week-end...

My brother and his wife invited us up for the night and we were super excited to hang with them. They whipped up an awesome dinner complete with an official Johnsonville sausage cutting and some meat s'mores.  They also cooked ribs, mac n' cheese nibbles, corn on the cob and loads of fruit and fresh veggies. From there we packed up some cocktails and headed to a concert in the park. Finn stayed behind to take his cousins out for ice cream before tucking them in for the night.  The grown-ups sat up until the wee-hours and enjoyed our whiskey and conversation! And today all those same grown-ups needed a nap!
