iFly Fun...

This afternoon as fun post-homecoming treat, Kate and Finn went to iFly for a little indoor skydiving excursion.  Both of them had a ball and loved taking flight!  Check Finn out in the video below....

Happiness is Homecoming...

Finn and the lovely Kate got all dolled up for Homecoming last night.  I think they looked like a million bucks and it was such fun to see them together!  Of course, I could not resist taking them to my favorite alley for a mini photo shoot! You could not find two nicer kids if you tried.

After posing like a couple of champs they headed over for pictures with some OPRF friends before heading to the dance. Cheers to boutonnieres,  high heels, friendship and young love!

Student of the Month program returns to Saint Patrick..

Saint Patrick High School officially reintroduced its Student of the Month program on Wednesday, Sept. 23, with the announcement of six winners for the month of September. And Finn Elsmo was among the award recipients!

According to the Saint Patrick website: "The purpose of the Student of the Month Program is to recognize each students’ contributions to the Saint Patrick community at large. A teacher, administrator, staff member or counselor can nominate the students based upon any or all or the following criteria: Outstanding or improved grades, exemplary attendance, cooperation, leadership, overall achievement, consideration of others, academic curiosity, outstanding attitude and community involvement/service."

Reasons given for his selection: "Finn has been an asset in working with students in Biology this year in a cooperative manner. He has been a model partner."

We could not be more proud of our Shamrock!

Self Portrait @ 41...

My little self-portrait tradition continues as I enter my 41st year.
I selected this one simply because it reflects a certain calm I have come to have about life.  I let my hair go back to its natural color for the first time in more than 2 decades and I don't even mind the grey hairs on my head.  I've noticed my eyes are a little puffy in the morning these days, but I assure you that is not a result of crying over the fact my favorite girl in the world moved to Philly last month.  I guess I'm just getting older; I've even added Beauty Counter's anti-aging regimen to my daily routine to combat all these emerging wrinkles as naturally as possible. Sure, I still require a good deal of mascara, lipstick and natural light to look my loveliest, but all-in-all I am pretty down with the privilege of getting older.
Happy birthday to me!

Petri Dishes...

I've been working on a few new dishes lately and I was ready for this little number to take center stage at my dinner table this week-end.  I helped a little with a science themed birthday celebration not too long ago and the birthday girl gifted me a set of perfect petri dishes as a thank you gift.  We the resulting "fungus study" as a little creepy and totally delicious!

Joong Boo Market Men

Nothing beats a $2 Wang Mandu from Joong Boo Market as a mid afternoon snack.  This afternoon we were lucky enough to be in the neighborhood and snagged a few of these savory bites.  I assure you these are the best snacks sold in a parking lot I've ever found!

Crab Fest 2015...

I love a good dinner party and my friend Talley threw a memorable neighborhood bash last night!  We prioritized attending her annual Crab Fest this year and I promise you we will not miss it again.  Everyone chips in and she gets 2 bushels of blue crabs shipped in from the east coast.  Talley cooks them up and servers them alongside fresh bread, peel and eat shrimp, steamed clams and corn on the cob.  OMG...too much awesome!
The entire delicious experience is totally hands-on and more than a little messy, but once you start cracking those crabs, ferreting out the super sweet meat is addictive!
With nearly 30 folks in attendance, the entire affair yields a spectacular mess, but all it takes is a few folks to roll up the paper on the tables to dispose of all the remnants of a fun-filled evening!
We are sure lucky to be be on the list for this party and I am counting down the days until it happens again next year!

Birthday Boys...

Unfortunately, a last minute change to Finn's soccer schedule prevented us from being able to attend Kas and Kavi's Chicago birthday party, but we were lucky enough to be able to swing by for a little morning birthday love on Sunday with some of our favorite little peeps!
We always love it when these four are back in town!

Shamrock MVP...

In tough conference game against a formidable Benet squad the Shamrocks came up short on goals this afternoon, but our Finnman had a fantastic game.  His coaches must have noticed because was named MVP as a result of his fine efforts on the field!

My Big Baby...

Out like a light in the backseat as he clutches to a soccer ball.  Sometimes I can't believe how much he has grown up and then there are moments like this one where he still feels young to me.

Klassy Kamping Family Portraits...

"The Elsmo 3/4"
"The Pfour"
"The K3"
"Team T"
"The Frigs"
Ang tries to make a point to take a picture of each of our klassy kamping families each year and this time around we were all in the same place during the photo session and could snap our own pictures, too.  It is hard to believe we started camping with some of these impressive peeps before they were even walking!  Not to worry, I sent this edited version of our portrait to Emma to ensure she would know we were thinking about her like crazy while we were away!

Klassy Kamping 2015

Our annual family and friends camping trip is one of my very favorite week-ends of the year!  It was a bazillion degrees this year and I am not a fan of the heat (okay it makes me more miserable than most), but I could not let soaring temperatures get in the way of such fun!  It was more than a little strange to have Emma missing from the crew this year, but we totally loved spending quality camping time at Governor Dodge State Park with our Finnman!
We arrived on Friday evening and while we set up camp I let a few campfire packets cook in fire.  They were filled with chicken, stuffing, broccoli and cheddar cheese and were totally delicious! We'll be making them again next year for sure! The next morning our entire crew (minus 2 late arrivals) gatherd at the Pfour camp for a batch of Leif's bloody marys and some BLT bagel sandwiches and eggs.  It was a perfect way to start the day!

After breakfast we headed to Stephens' Falls for a lovely (and yes HOT) hike through the woods and meadows before hitting the beach for the better part of the afternoon.  In the evening we dined on turkey chili Frito Pie and Amy's gourmet s'mores.  The Frito pie (served in bags) is probably my favorite camping indulgence and we have perfected serving it to a crowd over the years.

After a very rainy night we woke up for birthday breakfast burritos and cupcakes.  Since Labor day fell late this year we were lucky enough to be on the campgrounds for Ang's birthday; we celebrated in little ways throughout the day and I think she felt the love! In the afternoon we headed to New Glarus for our annual brewery romp, bakery splurge and meat shop madness.  The hilly drive to the quaint town is just lovely and this year Chris and Graham braved 40 miles of inclines in 90 degree heat on their bikes; I cannot believe they made it there in one piece!  I am betting those New Glarus beers and Ruef's landjagers never tasted better to those boys after making such a trek! Later in the day we hit the beach before cooking up a grand dinner in the dark.  On monday our tired and sweaty crew had to pack everything up and head back toward civilization.  We are already looking forward to next year!

Shamrocks Under the Lights...

Finn and the Shamrocks suited up for a varsity game under the lights tonight at Ridgewood High school.  Ridgewood has a tough team, but our Shamrocks gave them a serious run for their money! They lost 0-1 in the end, but they were playing some great soccer.  Finn was looking dangerous in the center-midfield and I know he was happy to be playing on a team with such drive, spirit and perseverance,  It was such fun to watch the game and  predict good things for the Shamrocks this season!
