If you sweep the house I will follow you.
If you vacuum the rugs I will follow you.
If you bring out the dust mop I will follow you.
I will follow you all day long.

Escape to the Pine-on-Pine Utopia...

Our annual trip to our pine-on-pine utopia in Lake Geneva, WI is one of my favorite week-ends of the year.   We looked at really nice marbling and sniffed the occasional skunk fart, but did little else other than completely slow down together. We cooked and ate and drank and snuggled up.  We played cards, watched movies and generally avoided the out doors for 48 blissful hours!  I cannot tell you how important each and everyone of these gorgeous ladies is to me and taking time just for each other has become an essential part of my life.  I am one lucky lady.

Finn had a liturgy at St. Pat's today. He was looking very handsome in his tie and sweater and his smudge of ashes reminded me of my childhood.  He has decided that he is going to give up being messy for Lent.  I can't wait to see him keep his room clean for 40 days!

Double Yum!

Paczki Day and Mardi Gras force things to get a little delicious around here!  These polish donuts (pronounced Poonch-key) are divine and made for a fun follow up to the red beans and rice I served up for our Big Easy inspired dinner.
We all went to culinary heaven this evening!

Happy Monday Brunch!

We miss our friends who moved away to NYC, but that made it even sweeter when they stopped by for a family brunch yesterday morning.  I served some blueberry french toast, an egg dish, bacon and fruit, but the highlight of our morning had to be all the sweet cuddles and cozy time together.

Home Sweet Home Ohio...

Last week-end I took Emma to visit OSU and I had the chance to visit my childhood home in Worthington,Ohio.  Even though we only lived there for four years, I loved this house and particularly appreciated the giant pine trees in the front yard.  It is funny how fast all sorts of memories come flooding back to me as I stood in front of this beauty of a building.

*It should be noted that, despite the blizzard, Emma and Leif made it home this morning and there were loads of non-photo texts between these images.

We Rocked the House...Again!

Local homebrewers and chefs enjoyed the quiet moments before  participating in a sold-out fundraiser to benefit the Oak Park Regional Housing Center and the School of Rock scholarship fund.  I was paired up with Rick Boultinghouse once again at this second annual event and tried my best to create a dish worthy of his American pale ale featuring homegrown hops. With the help of Rick's lovely wife, Rachel, I managed to churn out a couple hundred of these little spicy dim sum dumplings

The resulting dish was a flavor explosion and (just like Rick's ale) was well received among the hundreds of community members who attended this jovial event.  It was a complicated bite that featured a healthy dose of dehydrated sriracha; it takes several hours to make the spicy component, but it added considerable depth and made Rick's beer work as the eraser is was meant to be.  I couldn't have done it without these two and I loved all the social media love folks were sharing all night long!
When you get down to it, we live in a pretty incredible community and nights like this one prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt!
