Happy Paczki Day!

Polish donuts known as Paczki are flying off the shelves of local Chicago bakeries today.  The deep fried bites filled with an assortment of jams or custards are a celebration of Chicago's vibrant Polish community.
I am lucky I got my hands on a few of these sweets for my sweeties around 11am today; lines at Polish bakeries had lines out the door at 4am!

When I was growing up...no one but the folks from the old Country of poland actually bought Paczki...Now they come infused with moonshine and curd and whiskey...My grandmother from Poland would be amused.

I know! Paczki fillings are sure going beyond the standard rose and prune these days. I have to say the diversity is delicious...though the moonshine option scares me a little. ;o)

yes.. especially with kids eating them... I saw the Moonshine and Lemon Curd being sold at Delightful Bakery on Lawrence.. They have the most unusual offerings there.
