Italia Day Seven: Gradara

After a difficult loss it is super easy to encourage exhausted young soccer players to climb a big hill to look at a really old castle. Not.  After some considerable cajoling, however, we made our way to Gradara, a quaint town and commune in the Marche region of central Italy.  Know for the immaculate preservation of the famously murderous scence recounted in the 5th canto of Dante's Inferno, Gradara's castle and the surrounding town are simply enchanting.  History suggests that Francesca di Rimini and her lover Paulo were slain by a jealous and unattractive soldier behind the castle walls in 1289.  In addition to touring the pristine castle, we enjoyed an outstanding meal at Osteria Della Luna before heading back to San Marino.

Tim has promised to take me there, he loved it so much. We took karrick to see Madagascar yesterday which was set in Italy...he was drooling over the damn cartoon.
