Gaudy.

My Grammy, Virginia, always picked out the best handmade Barbie clothes, shuffled cards faster than anyone I'd ever known, and had the most recognizable penmanship of anyone I've ever met in my life.
She also had a very sparkly Christmas tree.

Some (if not all) of of my grandma's ornaments were downright gaudy. The over the top ornaments likely came from some church craft bazaar, but as a little girl I imagined they were covered with priceless diamonds, rubies, and emeralds.
They were always beautiful to me.

These days Leif and I spend a good deal of time adding  sparkle to our tree...glass icicles, glittering snow flakes, and translucent bows all add a signature sparkle to our Christmas branches.  I think our efforts  would have made my grandma very happy and each year when I hang the two ornaments that were once hers  in a place of prominence on our tree,
I am reminded that a little  glitter is good.
