Celebrating Chutney

Leif's experience with LGC is coming to an end, but the friendships we made during the past year sure aren't!  Along with LGCers, Celena and Nadim, Leif and I threw a baby shower for another LGC fellow, Kaberi, and her husband Vik.  It has been quite a while since I've had a hand in planning a baby shower and honestly, I could not think of a more perfect and deserving couple to celebrate!
Kaberi and Vik have chosen not to find out the sex of their baby and in the meantime have taken to calling him or her "Baby Chutney."  Their creative nickname was reflected in both gifts and party favors!
Leif went to Patel Brothers and picked up sweet mango chutney to serve as favors for the women attending the party and I attached a recipe for everyone to try.

Baby Chutney's Chutney Appetizer
1/4 C Sweet Mango Chutney
8ounces of Cream Cheese
4 Dried Apricots, diced
1/4 C shelled Green Pistachios
1T Fresh Parsley, minced
Gingersnap Cookies

Combine the chutney and cream cheese.  Mound into a serving dish and garnish with the apricots, pistachios, and parsley.  Serve as a spread for the gingersnap cookies.

In lieu of offering another recipe, we opted to gift a little Yuzu infused Summer Squuze beer and some added "security" to the men who attended our Asian inspired baby shower.

Just before the shower, Cel and I settled into the kitchen together and she proved she can expertly garnish a series of appetizers!  Anyone who thinks she cannot find her way around in the kitchen is sorely mistaken.

After the boys ran a bunch of errands and set up the bars, Nadim had just enough time to sweep my kitchen before the guests arrived.  The last time we were together we shared a dinner at The French Laundry and he looked very handsome, but to be totally honest I don't think people can look better than Nadim did during his "Risky Business meets Whose the Boss" moment!  And all that means is he fit right in with the other two co-hosts for the shower...just look at my Leifer rockin' that plaid and Cel movin' those shrimp toast...
As dusk fell our guests of honor arrived and the deck started filling up with an extraordinary cast of characters.  Everyone seemed to enjoy the our Pimm's Rangoon cocktail and an assortment of passed appetizers before heading into the dining room to assemble their dinner.
I love to use my mix and match Asian take-out concept to satisfy diverse dietary preferences and our buffet last night was perfect for the occasion. The lush tablescape represented to bounty of "good fortune" we all wish for Kaberi, Vik, and Baby Chutney!
Our creative dinner on the deck was relaxing and filled with merriment !  From there we moved onto gift opening and enjoyed some red velvet cupcakes from Sugar Fixe, before settling in for a relaxing night around the fire.
Our memorable evening was filled love and good wishes from start to finish and I hope Kaberi and Vik left knowing how delighted we are to have them in our lives and how thrilling it is to see them starting off on this grand adventure!  I cannot wait to meet Chutney and steal a few sweet snuggles!
