Dinner with Teacher

This evening took the Elsmo Four to the lovely home of Emma's third grade teacher (and possibly Finn's fifth grade teacher)in Wooddale, IL. She and her friend, Julie, cooked up some delicious pork tenderloin and mashed potatoes for us. After dinner we ate some very good cake and Linda taught us how to play Left, Right, Center. It was a delight spending the evening with them both!

Family Brunch Images...

Thanks for a lovely day Mom and Dad.

12-25 dinner

85-10-05 marks the percentages of Sangiovese, Cabernet, and Merlot blended to created the "best nine dollar bottle anyone will ever taste," but 12-25-09 will forever open the memory lock on one of the best Christmas dinners I have ever enjoyed.
A of the Pfour and I took turns making courses and B manged the wine pairings; the results were simply divine...
Sweet Potato Ravioli with Sage Brown Butter, Chilies, Crispy Shallots, and Pinenuts.

French Onion Soup with Gruyere and Thyme

Seared Shrimp and Bok Choy with Ginger Lime Beurre Blanc and Cilantro Lime Gremolata

Paulina Meat Market Rack of Lamb with Rosemary and White Bean Puree.
Ang finished off this amazing meal with a lovely chocolate cake!

Thanks, friends, for making our holiday memorable in the best possible way.
Our life is better because you are part of it.

Christmas Morning.

Christmas morning brought gifts from Santa...big hits included Fifa 10, deodorant for Leif, Mel, and Emma (we think Santa is trying to tell us something), an art set, yummy treats for the pets, and of course a box full of forbidden Twinkies!

Christmas Eve

We spent a delightful casual evening among lovely friends this Christmas Eve.
All of the vegetarian fare was Mexican themed and I put together a nice little platter of spicy potato skins as an appetizer.

Following a filling and delicious Black Bean Chili the kids performed a live version of The Night Before Christmas.

JbCool Cat's sister Alex created a gift for Finn that was too cute not to share...
...and to all a good night!

Snowman Story

Once upon a time on the eve of Christmas Eve a young boy decided to build a snow man in the dark. He carefully built a tower of white icy balls and decorated it with coal eyes, striped hat, and bright red scarf...when it came time to insert that silly carrot nose...
...tragedy struck and the snowman collapsed. Our boy was left crumpled in a pile of tears and sadly two more attempts yielded the exact same results. I told him it might best to look at things in a brand new way and make some adjustments to his plans......at the end of it all the answer was no middle ball!
They were happy as clams...Finn and his creation he named Hosé.
We're happy he is our snowy guest for this holiday.
The End.

Emma has confidently taken over the holiday baking responsibilities around here and I couldn't be more delighted with her enthusiasm and the results!
She really has a knack for this baking thing!

Ladles and Lasagna

Last month we had a gathering and I borrowed two ladles from my friend El. Despite several failed attempts to return her kitchen utensils I still had them until tonight.
Our dinner theme was ladles and lasagna...El and her family got to eat some yummy lasagna and take home her ladles; it was just lovely.

Here is what you get when you unleash three kids in the basement with one camera and a mattress....
