A little piece of history

In 1912 a group of socially conscious women started the Oak Park and River Forest Day Nursery to provide high quality, full time child care to working women in the community. This mission has continued on into present day. The Day Nursery remains the only preschool in our historic community offering services to high income families that pay full tuition and lower income families that pay tuition according to a sliding fee scale based on family income and size. Some family's' tuition costs are fully state subsidized, as no one is turned away based on an inability to pay.
I have been a member of the board of directors for this great organization for the past six years and the time has come to elect new leadership. I care passionately about the Day Nursery and want to see it in the best hands possible. I ran into our meeting tonight, straight out of yoga class, to learn that a slate for co-presidents, including me and the amazing MD, had been approved by the board. I think MD and I are a little scared, but equal to the task. At our next official board meeting we have to amend the by-laws and vote on the slate, but I am pretty sure big things are on the horizon for me, MD, the board, and the organization. Namaste.
