A day at the Ballet

The bun head was looking forward to her big day...
The new Joffrey Tower is on the verge of it's official grand opening and there is something pretty amazing about the place. The company dancers can be viewed rehearsing and taking class by passersby on busy State Street.
After successfully securing a spot in the 2008 Nutcracker Children's cast, Emma and a fellow cast mate headed over to the ever popular Corner Bakery for a quick bite before their placement class for the new Joffrey school.I was able to watch Emma take her class perched in the window of the book store across the street. It struck me as quite funny as I moved books off shelves to improve my view, but I justified the adventure by buying a latte from the book store cafe. I stalked my own daughter and I don't apologize for it!
She was dancing in plain view of Chicago, but as I watched her it was clear she was dancing for herself. Emma was attentive and serious and at the same time curious and light hearted. She managed to secure the highest placement awarded among the class participants. Walking back to the car, she took my hand in hers and said,
"Mom, I am just really proud of myself."
Her confidence is my pride.
