Three Cooks in a Chinese Kitchen

The Beijing Olympics started today! We always watch the opening ceremonies and the kids and I decided it would be a wonderful idea to make an authentic Chinese meal to enjoy while we watched the action in across the globe...

I love cooking with Emma and Finn and today we cooked a giant meal...Emma worked on her knife skills and Finn was revealed as a first rate dumpling wrapper and scallion snipper. They chopped, measured, mixed, and spread... It was a four hour cooking lesson with fabulous results. Okay, the lo mein noodles were a little over cooked, but with all the knives and kids something had to slide. I maintain soft noodles are better than missing fingers...

While enjoying our dinner we watched the opening ceremony. Fifteen thousand people performed and the start featured 2000 synchronized drummers...nothing about the production was subtle; it was filled with fireworks, elaborate costumes, and hoards of singing children.

Emma had this comment, "I'm just saying Mom, the events you do are great and everything, but no offense, this is SPECTACULAR!"
Is is possible her standards are just a tad high?

Mel, All of your posts are really fun to read but I especially love the posts with your kids in the kitchen. What awesome memories. I still remember making fried apple/peach pies and canning plum jelly with my Mom in the Summer or making chick'n dumplins' with my Mom in the Winter or baking coconut cake or cooking mustard greens or biscuits with my Grandmother. I only wish the biscuit gene rubbed off on me. OK, now I am sufficiently hungry and it's only 9:20 AM!!

Penny you are very very sweet. Those sound like delicious memories and I hope Emma and Finn treasure their kitchen time as much as you did!
